When it comes to working out you’ll never know what you can accomplish until you actually start doing something. The hardest thing anyone has to do is start. It’s easy to get your plan together. It’s easy to talk about working out. It’s easy to dream about your results and how you will look and feel. The hard part is to stop talking and start doing.
That has always been my toughest challenge. “Just shut up and get to work,” is what I had to tell myself. The lazy voice inside my head kept me from becoming who I wanted to be. It kept me from my fitness goals. It kept me weak and un-energetic about life itself.
Now that I have put that voice where it belongs (in a dumpster) I have been reaping the benefits of working out. I feel better, I look better and I feel stronger about myself. I feel like I can conquer what comes my way. I feel ready.
Do I have ripped abs and chest? Not yet but I’m getting there. I spent 20 years treating my body like crap. I had horrible eating habits and I didn’t workout at all. That left me being 35lbs overweight, tired, and with my joints in pain. I needed to do something but I didn’t have the want to. One day my wife told me about a 75 day program and I thought she was crazy. So like any good husband I said yes before truly listening to what she was telling me.
75 days later. 150 workouts later. No cheating. I mean it - NO CHEATING! I lost 30lbs. I gained my life back. I gained my strength, my grit, and my discipline for life back.
I’m far from perfect. I have not arrived but I encourage you to join me on the journey. Together we can be great. Together we can meet our goals. Let’s do this!
I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and love starting new things. I get bored with doing the same thing every day so I knew having a typical “day job” would not work for me. I come from a long line of farmers and ranchers that believe in Godly values, hard work, and dedication. I continue that family tradition of hard work and integrity in all I do. Whether it's learning technology, training horses, or even sewing. I have always believed that hard work pays off.
I have been married 19 years to my wonderful husband, Brandon. We have three amazing children; Kalee, Stella, and Ethan. My dream since I was a kid was to be married and be a stay-at-home mom. I’m fortunate to be able to live that dream. My goals now have shifted from living that dream to expanding it by empowering people to flourish with sustainable healthy living.
After getting married we spent 19 years eating whatever we wanted and not putting much effort into exercise. Our fitness plan was built on excuses which is why we failed at every attempt to get fit. We threw out the excuses so we could Be Better. In January of 2022, we had enough of feeling bad, being out of breath, and not being able to play sports with our kids without feeling ridiculous and embarrassed about our bodies. Six months later we've lost a combined 80 lbs! We're not done yet! We have big goals and the journey has just begun. Join us as we drop the excuses, XLR8 Fitness and Be Better.
Enough was enough. I had struggled with my weight since I got married and started taking birth control. My whole body got out of whack and I struggled for years to get back down in weight. I was embarrassed about how I looked. I was tired of my knees and lower back being in pain because of being overweight. I was tired of being out of breath from doing very little activity. I had become lazy and undisciplined in my eating and exercise habits. I made excuses as to why the weight wouldn't come off. Discouraged, disappointed, and depressed are the 3 things I felt most days.
I love sports and was very athletic growing up but I was ashamed at what I had become. I was overweight, over 40 and trying to coach cheer and basketball for my oldest daughter’s teams. I couldn’t demonstrate the drills to show the girls on the team because I was too out of shape and overweight. This was the push I needed to finally say, “That's it! My body deserves better. My kids deserve better. My husband deserves better."
On December 29, 2021, I started intermittent fasting and watched a little more of what I was eating. I lost 10.4 lbs by January 26, 2022. I thought that this was a great start and I wanted to keep going. On January 31, 2022, I started a body reset with my nutrition. For the next 30 days, I did not cheat on my nutrition plan and lost another 7.3 lbs. I began to wonder how much more weight I could lose if I also started exercising.
I had seen a friend doing 75 Hard and thought I can do this.! So I recruited my husband, sister, and brother-in-law to do this with us for accountability. 75 Hard is more of a time management program. You can lose weight because you are focused on finishing the tasks each day. With this program you had to follow a nutrition plan, workout twice a day for a minimum of 45 minutes with one of those workouts being outside no matter what, drink a gallon of water, and so on.
Our nutrition plan was a gluten-free, 50 carb count day, with clean protein. We chose to eat as many fruits and vegetables and did not count those against our carb count. I was replacing one meal with my protein veggie shake which really helped me out with my dessert cravings.
One of our workouts consisted of Brandon and I doing the Beachbody 645 program. It met the time requirements and was a perfect way to reintroduce ourselves to working out. I had been a member of Beachbody since 2009 and loved all their programs. I was just not disciplined in sticking to them. The 645 program helped us see results fast!
We ended 75 Hard on June 18, 2022. My total weight loss this year is 50.2 lbs. I am not done yet! I still have another 70 lbs to lose to be at my goal weight.
During this time I fell in love with eating better and exercising so I decided to jump right in and become a Beachbody coach and help inspire others to Be Better. I would love for you to join us in our accountability group and let's accomplish our goals together.
I had been considering getting back in shape for several months however I was enjoying my lifestyle and not ready to make the change. My wife, Melissa, started in January 2022 and was doing great with eating better nutrition and she was ready to up her game.
She called me 2-3 days before I was headed home from a business trip and said she wanted to do 75 Hard. I had no clue what 75 Hard was so she began to tell me about the program. My first thought was no way, I can't do that. I can't workout at 2 different times of the day for a minimum of 45 minutes each. Then she mentioned the gallon of water a day! That blew my mind. You should watch her TikTok videos of me trying to figure out how to accomplish the water daily. There are several other tasks you must complete each day on 75 Hard and if you miss one or even an ounce of water you must start over on day 1.
Melissa also convinced her sister and brother-in-law to join us, so I was in it no matter what. We started on April 4, 2022, and had our plan in place. We got our first workout done at 4 am with Beachbody 645 because that program was 6 days a week for 45 minutes and then walked in the evenings for our second workout. On Sundays, we walked twice a day. Those first couple of days we were so sore and tired but still excited about completing this task.
Close to 30 days in during one of our workouts I had pulled something in my back. I thought this was it. There was no way I could complete the 75 Hard program as I could barely move. My wife encouraged me to keep going and we just did 2 walks a day, which helped to loosen my back. We even kept our program going through a family reunion with all the yummy carbs and fried catfish.
We completed 75 Hard on June 18 with no cheating on our meal plan, getting the 2 workouts in even if that meant in the rain or with a hurt back. I drank my gallon of water a day. I was able to lose a total weight loss of 30 lbs. See our before and after pictures below.
